The Way That Loved Me Back:
A Scot's Journey to Santiago de Compostela
Callum Jackson Adventure Series — Book 1
Published September 2025
Book Description
Callum Jackson is no hero. He is a weary Glaswegian drawn to the Camino de Santiago by a dream and a letter. With his Gran's blessing, he sets out — not knowing what he is walking toward, but certain he cannot stay where he is.
Along the way, old wounds begin to soften. A quiet romance takes shape. And the road itself seems to awaken something that had long been dormant.
The Way That Loved Me Back is a novel about the kind of healing that doesn't announce itself — that arrives quietly, in the middle of a hard day's walking, when you're too tired to resist it.
This is where Callum's pebble gets placed. This is where the journey begins.

A Note from Jamie
The Way That Loved Me Back began with a question I couldn't answer standing still. In August 2018 I left Glasgow, flew to Biarritz, and started walking across northern Spain. I arrived in Santiago de Compostela on 5 September. Six days later — after walking back along the English Way — I arrived again, on my Gran's birthday. I did not plan that. The road gave it to me.
Callum Jackson is not me. But he walks the same road, carries the same weight, and arrives at the same unexpected grace. The name is a literary choice — a fictional distance from a real journey. He carries something of Gran Jackson in his surname. He carries something of me in everything else.
