The Long Walk to the White House — Jamie Wallace | Whithorn Way Pilgrimage

The Long Walk to the White House
A Pilgrimage on the Whithorn Way

Callum Jackson Adventure Series — Book 3

Published June 2026

Book Description

At the foot of Scotland, where the Machars peninsula reaches into the Irish Sea, a house of white stone has been standing for fifteen hundred years. This is Candida Casa — the shining white house — where Saint Ninian raised the first church in Britain and where Robert the Bruce made his last pilgrimage south. Callum Jackson is the latest in a long line of people who have felt the pull.

He sets out from Glasgow with a pebble in his pocket, a promise to his Gran, and a road he cannot yet understand. The Whithorn Way will give him 155 miles to try.

It won't be that simple. A storm off the Firth of Clyde turns him back before he is halfway. A pandemic closes the road. It takes four years — and three attempts — to walk a journey most people complete in a week.

But somewhere in all that returning, something changes. The walk stops being about arrival. And the road begins to give him exactly what he needed — though not at all what he expected.

This is where Callum's pebble is lifted. This is where the journey finds its meaning.

A Note from Jamie

The Whithorn Way took me four years to finish. Not because it is a difficult walk — though it asks something of you — but because life kept intervening. A storm. A pandemic. The road closing just as I was ready for it.

I came to understand, somewhere in the returning, that the interruptions were not obstacles to the pilgrimage. They were the pilgrimage.

Callum learns the same thing, in his own way. The book is dedicated to everyone who has ever had to start again — and found, to their surprise, that starting again was the point.

The series was published out of sequence deliberately. Book 3 before Book 2. The Whithorn Way before Glasgow. There is a reason for that. The Camino teaches you how to walk. The Whithorn Way teaches you why.
